about tribe

TRIBE is a Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary arts collective founded by MacArthur “Genius Grant” Fellow Shamel Pitts in December 2019. The collective, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is composed of international and local artists working across mediums such as movement, choreography, lighting design, video mapping projection, poetry, spoken word, cinematography, scenography, dramaturgy, costume styling, and music composition.

TRIBE art projects include, but are not restricted to: movement-based work, live multidisciplinary performance, video art, video documentary, photography, exhibitions, commissioned dance choreography, art residencies, and workshops.

TRIBE’s mission is to cultivate a space of discovery and a platform for artists – most specifically artists of color – with huge inspiration from the Afrofuturism movement. This movement states that we have a responsibility through our work to tell new stories and create a brighter future that is different, and shines more luminously, from our past.

Role Overview

Do you live and breathe social media strategy? Can you turn a raw photo into a thumb-stopping post and write a caption that actually gets people talking?

We are looking for a creative, strategic, and highly organized Social Media Manager to work closely with TRIBE’s Creative Director and act as the primary voice of our brand across all channels and digital platforms.

This is a role for a “full-stack” social creator: someone who can zoom out to build a monthly strategy, but also zoom in to write the perfect caption, edit a graphic or short video.

You will be responsible for maintaining our brand identity while driving meaningful engagement and community growth.

TRIBE is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity at our organization. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, or gender identity), national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic under applicable law.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning: Develop, implement, and manage monthly social media content calendars that align with overarching brand goals and marketing cycles.

High-Impact Copywriting: Craft compelling, platform-specific copy (Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, GiveButter, etc.) that maintains a consistent brand voice and encourages audience interaction.

Visual Content Creation: Perform simple yet professional image and video edits (using tools like Canva, CapCut, or Adobe Express) to ensure all assets meet brand aesthetic standards.

Active Community Engagement: Monitor social channels daily, responding to comments and DMs, and proactively engaging with relevant accounts to build a loyal community.

Brand Stewardship: Act as the “guardian” of our brand identity, ensuring every post, story, and interaction is visually and tonally on-brand.

Performance Tracking: Analyze key metrics (engagement, reach, and conversions) to provide brief monthly reports and iterate on strategy.

Qualifications & Skills

Experience: 2+ years of professional experience managing social media for brands or organizations.

Creative Execution: Strong writing skills and a “good eye” for design, photography, video and layout.

You should be comfortable with basic mobile or desktop editing and managing tools (Slack, Google Workspace, Photoshop, Premiere, Canva, CapCut, YouTube Studio, Google Analytics etc)

Strategic Mindset: An understanding of social media algorithms and how to use them to achieve specific organizational objectives.

Self-Management: Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and pivot quickly based on trending topics or internal needs.

Preferred “Plus” Experience (Not Required)

Experience running or supporting fundraising campaigns or crowdfunding (e.g., Kickstarter, Indiegogo).

Background working with non-profit organizations and understanding the nuances of donor-centric communication.

Experience with live performance events and Live-Streaming platforms.
